Recap of the Weekend

Times Five Cried: 1
Times Boyfriend's Mom called Five fat: 3
Times Boyfriend's Mom called Boyfriend fat: 2
Times Five's housekeeping was impugned: 8
Times Boyfriend's Mom made judgmental or insulting comments: infinity

There are lots of stories. Just ... lots. Stories of Fox News being on in my living room despite her knowing we're of a Democratic persuasion around here. Being lectured about religion. Having Jesus or "she's a good church girl" being dropped into conversation. Losing her at the Cathedral of Learning b/c she can't figure out which door she went into when she went to the bathroom. Being told we're fat. Being told I'm the reason for the apocalypse.

The truth is, it was better than I expected, but just barely. Though, on Sunday we almost packed her up and took her home due to a mean comment she made about me, my eating habits, and a vinaigrette salad dressing. Boyfriend was awesome about handling the situation, and eventually it leveled off enough that she was allowed to stay until Monday morning as planned.

I did do a happy dance when she left this morning. And I DID make myself a screwdriver for brunch.

And she won't be coming back for at least a year.

  1. Oh, that's terrible! Not the screwdriver, but the mom. ;)It's weird to make negative comments about someone's weight when they are losing weight though... But I guess you're just not "good enough" for her. As long as you and BF have a good relationship, her opinion really doesn't matter. :)

  2. She sounds like a real piece of work.

Glad she flew out on the broomstick she came in on.

Apparently HER mother never taught her that "if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all."

  3. Eeeee...I can't wait until Thursday so I can hear all about it!

  4. i said it once and i'll say it again: HUZZAH.

  5. I guess the best part of the visit is that she's gone. And Fox News, are you kidding me? Does she have a death wish for you?

You earned that screwdriver.. Hopefully one year will be long enough to get over the visit.

  6. Thanks for the great comment on my blog! Sorry for your crappy weekend...I'm with the last poster - you earned that screwdriver!
Don't let others break your spirit...ever. Sounds like you made it through this well, so you can pretty much tackle anything!

  7. WOW! What a weekend. I'm sorry you had to put up with that. Glad to see that you survived it without biting he head off... I think I would have.

  8. Booze is good for dealing with Moms. Especially moms that are not your own. And sometimes even for moms that are.
